Bloom where you're planted~

It's no surprise that our move to California was difficult for Mikayla. She left many BFF's and a great school she loved. She was in an award winning middle school choir and was looking forward to her class trip to Jamestown. That being said, she was also very excited to be closer to California family and the beach and knew she would make friends fast. She excelled at homeschooling, but was very excited to start her last semester of 5th grade at her new school in January. Even though that meant going back to elementary school since in Indy elementary is only thru 4th grade. She also had to learn a whole new math curriculum! For someone who is as creative as Mikayla, math just doesn't come as easily.
Despite everything, she jumped right in to church activities like Awana and Willy Wonka. She joined Sr. Chorus at her new school and even got a solo for the end of the year performance. Her solo was in "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the Lion King. On top of that, she received the President's Award for Education! She got a letter from Obama and a certificate and pin. She now has letters from two Presidents! She had to make a little speech at the presentation and she talked about fairness. She said how her new classmates were kind to her when she was new at school and that showed fairness. We couldn't be more proud of our sweet girl!

Her new BFF!
Performing "Lion King." Zach told her her solo was beautiful!
She was also accepted into a private Christian school in our area that is difficult to get into. She had to do an interview, take a 3 hour test, and answer several essay questions. Last week she auditioned for the intermediate middle school choir at that school and after hearing her sing for about 2 minutes the director ended the audition and came out and told us she made the choir! She was on cloud nine. Mikayla and I have talked a lot about God's plan for her life and how we didn't understand why he was taking her away from so many beloved things in Indy. We both have been in awe at the amazing things God has brought into her life in the past 6 months.

This week we will celebrate her graduation from 5th grade at her "Culmination Ceremony" and it is more than just an ending for her. It is only the beginning of her life here and I know she will continue to bloom where she has been planted.

We all love you so much sweet girl!
We can't wait to see what else God has in store for you!
